At the end
of November 1918, a young 17-year old youth
crossed the Piave, a river considered sacred
for the nation, on a cart loaded with wine,
heading towards Udine. That brave and enterprising
young boy was Gaetano “Bepi” Mason.
Many years later in 1954, destiny was to take
him back to his beloved Piave area to fulfil
his greatest dream. But lets go back to the
beginning of the ’20s, when that enterprising
youth continued to supply his customers in
Friuli, using the same modest means, until
1922 when he founded Azienda Vinicola Mason
Gaetano Giuseppe.
In the years to follow, he extended his business,
selling fruit, and focusing on exporting top
quality peaches, from Mogliano Veneto, to
Austria, Germany and England.

In 1937, he
went to Gimma in East Africa, where he opened
a hotel/restaurant, “Lo spaccio veneto”,
which soon became the focal point of the
whole area. While her husband was in Africa,
grandmother Olinda, a woman of great will
and charisma, ran the small but efficient
winery, bringing up 4 children at the same
time. We have dedicated, perhaps, our best
wine to her: Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso
della Vigna Olinda.
Fortunately, grandfather Bepi returned to
his homeland before the Second World War
broke out, going back to wine producing
and selling.
In 1954, he purchased about 80 hectares
of land and a Venetian villa, dating back
to 1645, in Gorgo al Monticano, which was
carefully restored in the ‘80s, and
then became the main premises of our winery.
Today, his son Paolo with his children Paola
and Giorgio continue the challenge started
by his father.
If it is true that there is no true love
without deep knowledge, our wines are the
result of our family’s commitment
and with these wines, we wish to show all
our respect and passion for the generous
soils of the Piave area.
